How to Add a Fluss+ Widget to Your Android Home Screen: One-Tap Gate Access

How to add a Fluss+ widget to your Android home screen

The Fluss+ widget is a button on your Android home screen that triggers one of your Fluss+ devices directly, without opening the app. On Android the Fluss+ app places the widget for you, so setup starts inside the app rather than in your launcher's widget picker.

Before you begin

  • You need the Fluss+ app installed and signed in on the phone you're adding the widget to.
  • You need at least one Fluss+ device on your account. A widget triggers a single device, so add one widget per device you want quick access to.
  • Your access to the device must allow triggering it. To use the Wi-Fi connection, your access must also allow Wi-Fi triggering. See the various access types.
  • Your launcher must support adding widgets from inside an app. Most do; if yours doesn't, the Add home screen widget option won't appear — see Troubleshooting for how to add it from the widget picker instead.

Steps to add the widget

1. Open Devices from the home screen

Open the Fluss+ app and tap Devices in the bottom navigation bar.

4. Tap Add home screen widget

5. Confirm placement

Android asks you to confirm adding the widget. Confirm, and the widget is placed for you — you don't need to search your launcher's widget picker. The app confirms with Widget added to your home screen.

The widget arrives already pointing at the device you opened in step 2, set to trigger over Wi-Fi with confirm before opening on. To change any of those, carry on with the steps below.

Info: Depending on your launcher, Android may drop the widget on the first home screen page with space, or let you position it yourself. You can move it afterwards by touching and holding it.

6. Touch and hold the widget, then tap Settings

Placing the widget doesn't ask you anything about the connection. To reach those choices, touch and hold the new widget on your home screen and tap Settings. The setup dialogs in the next three steps then run.

Info: The exact wording depends on your launcher — some show a gear or pencil icon rather than the word Settings.

7. Choose the connection

A Connection dialog offers two choices:

  • Wi-Fi — sends the trigger over the internet. Works from anywhere your phone has a connection. Only devices that are currently online and allow Wi-Fi triggering appear in the next step.
  • Bluetooth — triggers the device directly from your phone, with no internet involved. You need to be within Bluetooth range. Every device you have access to appears in the next step.

Tip: Wi-Fi is the more dependable of the two. If you pick Bluetooth, a Bluetooth is in beta dialog appears — tap Continue to carry on with Bluetooth, or Use Wi-Fi to switch back.

8. Choose the device

A Choose a gate dialog lists your devices by name. Tap the one this widget should trigger.

Important: If you chose Wi-Fi and the device you're looking for isn't listed, it's either offline or your access doesn't allow Wi-Fi triggering. Bring the device back online, or start again and choose Bluetooth, where every device you have access to is listed.

9. Choose whether to confirm before opening

A Confirm before opening? dialog offers two choices:

  • Tap twice (recommended) — the first tap checks the device's current status, the second sends the trigger. This is a safety step that prevents accidental opening.
  • Single tap — one tap triggers the device immediately.

10. Tap the widget to test it

Tap the widget once. If you chose Tap twice (recommended), the widget shows Tap again to confirm — or the device's status, such as Closed · tap again — and you tap a second time to send the trigger.

After adding the widget

The widget shows Triggering… while the command is sent, then Trigger sent once it succeeds, along with how long ago the status was last updated.

You can resize the widget by touching and holding it, and you can revisit the connection, device, and confirmation choices at any time by repeating steps 6 to 9 — the widget stays on your home screen while you change them.

If you cancel one of the dialogs in steps 7 to 9, the widget keeps the settings it already had rather than being removed. If you cancelled before ever choosing a connection, it stays on Wi-Fi with confirm before opening on.

To add a second device, repeat these steps from that device's settings — one widget controls one device.

Troubleshooting

  • There's no "Add home screen widget" option. Your launcher doesn't support adding widgets from inside an app. Add it the usual way instead: touch and hold an empty area of your home screen, open the widget picker, and find the Fluss+ widget — listed as Fluss Gate — then place it. Reach the setup dialogs the same way as step 6: touch and hold the widget and tap Settings.
  • A "No gates with Wi-Fi access" message appears. You chose Wi-Fi, but none of your devices are currently online with Wi-Fi triggering allowed. Start again and choose Bluetooth, or bring the device back online. See solutions for Wi-Fi disconnection problems.
  • A "No gates available" message appears. You chose Bluetooth and the app has no devices stored yet. Open the Fluss+ app, let your devices load, then try again.
  • The widget shows "Bluetooth is off — tap to enable". The widget is set to Bluetooth and your phone's Bluetooth is switched off. Tap the widget to turn it on, then tap again to trigger.
  • The widget shows "Open Fluss+ to set up". The widget can't find your Fluss+ sign-in. Open the Fluss+ app and sign in, and the widget picks the sign-in up on its own. See why you are getting signed out.
  • The widget shows "Offline · tap again". The device isn't currently reachable over Wi-Fi. Tapping again still sends the trigger, but it's likely to fail — check the device's internet connection first.
  • The widget shows "Widget storage unavailable". The widget can't read the data the app shares with it. Restart your phone, then open the Fluss+ app once to let it re-sync.
